How to get DeVOL style, solid wood semi-custom INSET Kitchen Cabinets for a fraction of the cost

Preface Growing up, I spent summers at my grandparents cottage on the shores of Lake George in the Adirondacks. I’ve often cited this old house (and he things it contained) as the harbinger of my design roots and the kitchen…

Three ways we gained space in our kitchen reno without expanding the home’s footprint

As you can see from the before photos, the cottage kitchen was small and had an awkward layout with a door interrupting the flow of the counters and an inconveniently placed radiator. The door on the far right of the…

Home Sweet Home Cottage

The Cottage is the first whole house project that I’ve ever undertaken and I’ve loved having the opportunity to merge the work of two of my passions- historic restoration and design. Located just a couple of houses down from my…

This hood, at the cottage, was made by assembling This hood, at the cottage, was made by assembling a frame with wood, wetting down drywall until it was soft enough to bend- and then many hours of pasting and sanding the entire thing until the curve, slope and corners were exactly symmetrical and right. I was thinking maybe I should add some moulding around the bottom section - what do you guys think?
If you haven’t read my blog post about the cotta If you haven’t read my blog post about the cottage kitchen yet, please go check it out via the link in my bio. There are lots more photos there- along with links to every product in this kitchen. I partnered with a company called icabinitrydirect.com for these beautiful solid maple inset cabinets and I’m pleased to announce that icabnetry is offering a 35% discount on these inset cabinets to my followers with the use of code leah35 at checkout. This is an amazing deal because even without any additional discount, icabnitry offered the lowest price (by far) that we were quoted for inset cabinets. If you’re wondering how it works to order kitchen cabinets online the blog post also walks you through the ordering process which was, honestly, really simple and fun.

If you missed yesterday’s post I revealed the fu If you missed yesterday’s post I revealed the full cottage kitchen that we designed with inset cabinets from @icabinetrydirect. Here is a sweet little corner where we used a remnant of the Danby Vermont marble counters to create a small shelf. I’m strongly considering wallpaper for this kitchen but I’m curious about what everyone thinks! Should I share my favorite options in stories? Also- for more photos and links to sources in the kitchen check out my blog post which is linked to my bio!
This week I will be revealing the cottage kitchen! This week I will be revealing the cottage kitchen! We partnered with @icabinetrydirect and through them I was able to find my dream cabinets! Inset, custom color, solid maple, fully assembled and shipped to my door! And this for a fraction of the price of the British cabinet making brands that I’ve ogled on here for years. I feel like I’ve been sitting on this secret for too long and I can’t wait to spill the tea. If you don’t want to wait for the trickle of posts and would like to see and hear everything right now I’ve done a post about my ordering experience and it will be linked in my bio!

A couple of years ago I began collecting antique h A couple of years ago I began collecting antique handmade quilts for the cottage. They fit the paired down, old New England feel of the space. Of all the quilts, this one may be my favorite. I love the soft colors and ivory background. The sham is actually a matching crib quilt which I think is very sweet ❤️
This week I will finally reveal the cottage kitche This week I will finally reveal the cottage kitchen with all sources, paint colors and everything else!! I really can’t wait to show everyone how my partner and I worked together to take this kitchen from an unattractive and barely functional space to a classic British style inset kitchen! It was all done on a strict budget too!

Another room I love in the cottage is the master b Another room I love in the cottage is the master bedroom. It’s so simple, with its antique shaker dresser, quilt and rug that I sourced at @wovenkinhome. The ball and fringe curtains throughout the house are vintage Country Curtains from my childhood home but they can still be found at @vermontcountrystore
The downstairs bathroom at the homesweethome proje The downstairs bathroom at the homesweethome project is one of my favorite spots. It actually began as a badly enclosed back porch. Renovating this room was tricky because it included adding plumbing to a crawlspace without a basement beneath it. We pulled up the flooring and used tons of spray foam filling the crawl space around all the new pipes. We also added electric heat under the wood floor to provide a heat source in the room because it had 70’s baseboard heat. This beautiful tub was sourced at @architectural_parts_warehouse. The wallpaper is @colefaxandfowler bowood and the trim and ceiling color in here is Ben Moore land of liberty. I’ll link the pendant in stories- it’s one of my favorites in the house.
After & Before of the foyer. The foyer of the home After & Before of the foyer. The foyer of the homesweethomeproject is where the rehab of the whole house began. It started, as it always seems to start, in projects, with removing dirty wall to wall carpeting. What we found underneath was not for the faint of heart, and putting together what these stairs had been through felt a little like being a crime scene detective. In the end, we figured out that the stairs were painted with lead based paint sometime in the 40’s, carpeted the first time in the 50’s and then probably re carpeted every 15 years or so for the next 5 decades. This meant that in addition to having a million little tack strips for the current carpeting there were also the scars of the unfilled holes from many past tack strips. I set about removing every strip and nail with a crow bar and pliers and then filling everything with RH ready patch. Next came painting with led encapsulation paint and then, finally, a coat of Benjamin Moore Scuff X floor paint in a color match of my beloved behr “white luxury.” The job wasn’t fun, or fast, and it was honestly absolutely filthy work… but the results were satisfying, and when we moved this antique burl wood dresser that I won at auction into the house I loved the old wood next to the fresh, clean white and what was meant for a bedroom stayed here, because, to me, it looked just right in this spot. I’ll be sharing links to the light fixtures and cast iron candle holder in my stories as soon as I can remember how to use my like to know it account 😬I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend, we are headed to the lake soon!
